美国总统特朗普未就是否打击伊朗作出明确表态，称德黑兰已主动寻求谈话。
综合路透社和法新社报道，特朗普星期三（6月18日）在监督白宫南草坪新旗杆的安装工作时，就是否打击伊朗这一问题告诉记者：“我可能会这么做，也可能不会。没人知道我会做什么。”
他也表明，伊朗已提议在白宫进行谈话，但他认为“现在谈话为时已晚”。他没有提供关于此事的具体细节，并且形容伊朗完全没有防空能力、不具备防空系统。
美国国防部长赫格塞斯也拒绝证实华府是否准备打击伊朗，但他星期三告诉美国参议院军事委员会，如果政府作出这些决定，国防部准备执行。
