兩名中國科學家因涉嫌將一種有害真菌走私到美國而遭到起訴，美國司法部指該對情侶試圖把一種「會對農作物造成毀滅性病害」的生物病原體，帶到密歇根大學的實驗室進行研究。
根據起訴書，劉尊勇去年7在底特律機場入境時，海關人員在其背包中發現藏在4個塑膠袋內，並由紙巾包著名為「禾穀鐮刀菌」（Fusarium graminearum）的真菌；禾穀鐮刀菌會產生毒素，造成小麥、大麥、玉米和稻米的「赤黴病」（head blight），並導致人類與牲畜嘔吐、肝損傷和生殖缺陷，在科學文獻中被歸類為「潛在的農業恐怖主義武器」，每年造成數十億美元損失。
