当年「世界日报」报道「二月政争」(图1)。后来关于「二月政争」的一种流俗之见是将政争形容为由宋美龄幕后推动大中华派(保守派/非主流派)反击李登辉(主流派)，配合渲染成外省人 vs 本省人，这完全不符合事实。因为这种叙事忽略了以下几个难以回避的事实:
1.国民党海工会(图2)的郑心雄在负责中华民国海外侨运(包括负责营救六四民运的「黄鸟行动」，图3)的同时押宝李登辉而不是去挺具有浓厚大中华主义倾向的蒋纬国。
2.陈立夫作为大名鼎鼎的中华文化传道者和蒋彦士他们一起劝保守派支持的林洋港和蒋纬国退选。
3.李焕(图4)作为蒋经国的嫡系本与宋美龄和蒋纬国他们无多少关联却反而站到了保守派那边。
事实上所有以上事实指向的线索都在林洋港的回忆里得到了印证: 非主流派的牵线者只能是蒋经国一手提拔后又削权的王昇，只有政战系巨头王昇有条件运作影响李焕同意和李登辉较量，而王更是当年替蒋经国照顾章孝严(现已改姓蒋，https://www.cna.com.tw/news/firstnews/202006010106.aspx )一家的生活，相比之下宋美龄的势力随着美国和中华民国断交后在蒋经国布局下早已逐渐淡出了，蒋纬国更是早已边缘化，除了郝伯村素来和王昇交情深之外，都没人能够整合这些资源
