🚆 Indian Railways Update: Reservation Charts Now Ready 24 Hours in Advance
Indian Railways is introducing a major pilot change to enhance passenger convenience:
Final reservation charts will now be prepared 24 hours before train departure.
🔄 What's New?
- Earlier: Final charts were released 4 hours before departure (or the night before for early morning trains), with a second update close to departure.
- Now (Pilot System): A single final chart is created exactly 24 hours before the train departs.
🎯 Why It Matters
- Early Clarity: You’ll know *a day in advance* whether your ticket is confirmed, RAC, or waitlisted.
- Smarter Planning: No confirmation? You get time to:
- Book alternative tickets
- Cancel for a refund
- Adjust your travel plans
- Railway Efficiency: Helps Railways manage coaches better and even introduce clone trains on crowded routes.
🗺️ Where Is This Happening?
This initiative is currently under pilot in the Bikaner Division (Western Railway), starting June 6, 2025.
If successful, it may be implemented across India from July 1, 2025.
🧾 What Stays the Same?
- Tatkal Bookings: Still allowed; Aadhaar-based e-verification is now required.
- Ticketing Rules: Cancellation/refund, RAC, and waitlist rules remain unchanged.
- Waitlisted Passengers: As per May 2025 policy, waitlisted ticket holders can only travel in general coaches—not Sleeper or AC.
