Last Update:
On April 3rd, we celebrate World Aquatic Animal Day! Aquatic animals live mainly in water, seas, oceans, rivers, lakes, and ponds. They can be amphibians, marine mammals, crustaceans, reptiles, mollusks, aquatic birds and insects!
While we tend to them occasionally, aquatic animals have a vital role on earth: they recycle nutrients, purify water, maintain a balanced food chain underwater, and more. Their existence also contributes to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals, such as No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Life Below Water. However, our modern lifestyle's impact on aquatic living beings is disastrous: from plastic pollution, water contamination to overfishing, and illegal fishing, these animals face plenty of threats.
