On 14 December 2022, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 77/161, designating 30 March as the International Day of Zero Waste. Now in its third year, the global observance highlights the importance of sustainable waste management and the urgent need to transition towards a circular economy.
The world generates between 2.1 billion and 2.3 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste each year – from textiles and packaging to electronics, plastics and food. But waste management systems are struggling to keep up.
