نَشَر َدميتري مندليف الورقة الأصلية الَّتي رتَّبَ بِها الجَّدول الدَّوري للعناصر. كان يعمل ليلًا ونهار ويشطب ويُعدِّل ويضيف حتى ظهرت النُّسخة الأولى بشكلها الذي يشبه الجداول المعلَّقة في كل صفوف العلوم في العالم الآن.

تطلَّب من الوقت 300 عام حتّى يكتمل الجَّدول الدوري للعناصر الكيميائيَّة بالصُّورة الَّتي هو عليها الآن، ولكنَّ لميندليڤ فضلُ تأسيسهِ على هيئتهِ الرسميَّة؛ حيثُ نجح في ترتيب العناصر حسب أعدادها الذَّريَّة في فبراير 1869م لينشرها في ٦ مارِس من نفس العام.

‏وحقيقةً، تُعدُ أول محاولة لترتيب العناصر بِحسبِ خصائصها كانت على يد أبو الكيمياء «جابر بن حيان».
