埃隆·马斯克3月27日表示，其领导的联邦成本削减机构DOGE计划在五月底前完成削减1万亿美元政府开支目标，暗示将卸任DOGE职务。作为特朗普政府特聘的特殊雇员，马斯克称将通过削减2024财年非国防自由裁量项目逾半预算达成目标，并强调不会影响关键公共服务。
然而，DOGE试图削减的社保等强制性支出项目，其数据依据遭到质疑。美国监察长报告显示，2015至2022年社保不当支付仅占总额的不足1%，实际金额720亿美元，与马斯克宣称的"大量浪费"相悖。
