格纳托夫有超过27年的军事经验，曾担任乌海军陆战旅指挥官、乌陆军东部作战司令部司令等。国防部长乌梅罗夫说，正在系统地改造武装部队以提升战斗力。
巴尔吉列维奇将被任命为乌国防部监察长，负责整饬军规军纪。
美国总统特朗普表示，他将于18日与俄罗斯总统普京通话，讨论如何结束战争。特朗普说，土地和发电厂是此次对话的一部分，并将其描述为“分割某些资产”。
