2011年春季俄羅斯徵兵人數曾達到20萬的高峰。去年春季，徵兵人數為15萬，秋季為13.3萬人。俄羅斯一般每年在春秋兩季進行徵兵，義務兵役長度為一年。去年普京下令將服兵役年齡段從18-27歲擴大到18-30歲。

不久前普京表示，俄羅斯軍隊總規將模擴增至近239萬人，其中現役軍人數量提升至150萬人。未來3年將增加18萬人。
