Regarding Zekuala Monastery
In an official presser, and later a formal letter addressed to PM Abiy, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewhido Church (EOTC) has unveiled and condemned the killing of four of its clergymen by unidentified armed groups around Zekuala monastery in East Shewa zone of Oromia.

The Oromo Liberation Front - Oromo Liberation Army (OLF-OLA) condemns this barbaric attack targeting civilians in the strongest possible terms.
The EOTC has also beseeched the regime to hold perpetrators to account. While the factual details of what transpired around the monastery is yet to be uncovered, what is beyond doubt is that the regime stands the primary suspect. By now, it is well established among national and international actors alike that the regime's officials directly orchestrate massacre of civilians including through 'Koree Nageenyaa': the secret security committee established outside the legal, and formal government structure. It should also be noted that 'Koree Nageenyaa' oversees various small armed units outside the formal security structures to execute its orders.

To hold it as a primary suspect, the regime's motivations abound. The only recourse the regime knows is force. From its early years, the regime saw all established institutions outside of its control as a threat. However, over the past few years, it has used the BOTC for its war purposes in the north, and when an attempt to continue to do so failed last year, it has gone full circle to divide and weaken the church.

When things go awry in the process, as they often do for this government, it comes naturally to the regime to blame it on its opponents.
We call for an independent international investigation into these and other killings, and call on all responsible actors to refrain from pleading the regime to investigate its own crimes. At best, the regime has utterly failed in its primary duty to protect civilians.
