Before this was discovered during the time of temple renovation, Karpagam Vinayagar of Pillayar Patti was the earliest Vinayaka which belong to the sixth century. This is found in Yama Thandeeswarar temple in the village of Alagramam in Villupuram district in Tamilnadu.
