الاسبرين ممكن يؤدي الي حدوث تدمير في مخاط المعدة ويسبب قرحة بطريقتين :
1- معروف ان الاسبرين حامضي وبالتالي يعمل بشكل مباشر على تخرش ظهارة أنسجة المعدة
2- يثبط إنزيم ال(COX ) وبالتالي يثبط من تصنيع البروستجلاندين الذي يعتبر احد العوامل الأساسية لحماية المعدة
