为何 AV1 仍未普及？

AV1 是 AOMedia 在 2018 年释出的开源免专利费编解码器，其压缩效率比 H.265(HEVC) 提升了三成。AOMedia 的成员包括了 Netflix、微软、Google、亚马逊和 Meta 等巨头。然而七年之后，尽管免专利费且有科技巨头们的支持，AV1 仍然未普及，流行的流媒体应用如 Max、Peacock 和 Paramount Plus 仍然没有采用 AV1。背后的一大原因是 AV1 需要硬件支持，它的软解码方案存在严重缺陷，如 VideoLAN 开发的 AV1 解码器 dav1d 会严重影响手机的续航力。目前 Netflix 约 95% 的内容用 AV1 编码，而 YouTube 视频的 AV1 编码比例是 50%。AV1 目前还面临 MPEG 和 VCEG 开发的 VVC（H.266）方案的竞争，VVC 的压缩效率提升了五成，但不是免专利费。
